Noth Eastern Region Tanzania
The Little Sisters of St. Francis began their mission in Tanzania in 1991 with the establishment of St. Clare Convent in Chanjale Seminary-Mwanga District, part of the Kilimanjaro Region in the Diocese of Same.
Initially, Tanzania was part of the East of the Rift Valley Region, which covered various Dioceses in Kenya and Tanzania. Due to the geographical distance, the General Chapter of August 2010 decided to elevate Tanzania to a separate Region, creating the North-Eastern Region Tanzania. This new Region initially comprised Arusha Archdiocese and Same Diocese in the Kilimanjaro Region, officially inaugurated on December 14, 2013, with Sr. Regina Namagheri as the first Regional Superior.
Currently, the North-Eastern Region Tanzania extends its services to include Shinyanga Diocese and Morogoro Diocese since 2017. The Region is served by 54 Sisters, with one of the Institute’s Formation Houses located there.
Leadership: The current Regional Superior is Sr. Bridget Kokiambo, assisted by Sr. Yusta Majaliwa as the Vicaress and Sr. Juliana Mwangu as a Council Member.
The Little Sisters in Tanzania are approximately 64 in numbers with 10 Communities engaged in various apostolates including education, medical services, communication, secretarial work, school matrons, social work, and development management.
