Institute Leadership Team

The supreme authority within our Institute rests with the Superior General, supported by a council of four elected Councilors who serve alongside her in the General Council. One of these Councillors holds the role of Vicaress to the Superior General. Each council member’s term lasts six years, as determined by the General Chapter.

Our recent 11th Chapter convened in August 2022, affirming the current Institute Leadership Team for the term 2022-2028:

  • Sr. Rita Christine Nakitende: Superior General
  • Sr. Seraphine Amulen: Vicaress/Education Ministry
  • Sr. Josephine Nanyama: Councillor/Health Ministry
  • Sr. Wilhelmina Uhai Tunu: Councillor/Social and Pastoral Ministry
  • Sr. Agnes Everlyne Mutesi Mufumba: Councillor/Formation Ministry

The Office of Institute Leadership is fundamentally a service to the entire Institute and its communities. Guided by the spirit of Mother Kevin, we strive for unity of mind and heart, obedient to the Father’s Will. Our mission is to lead the Little Sisters faithfully into the future, honoring the spirit and mission of our Foundress. We embrace Christ’s teaching that the greatest among us must be the servant of all.

Following in the footsteps of St. Francis, Superiors at every level endeavor to foster a fraternal community rooted in Christ’s love. They ensure the faithful observance and regular review of our Franciscan life and spirit as outlined in our Rule and Constitutions.

Recognizing the need for decentralized administration, we have established six Regions: Central, Jinja, and Eastern Regions in Uganda; West of Rift Valley and East of Rift Valley Regions in Kenya; and North Eastern Region in Tanzania. Each Region is led by a Regional Superior who, together with the General Council, constitutes the Major Superiors of the Institute. They bear the responsibility of guiding the Institute toward its Vision and Mission.
The ministries of the Institute are organized into four Desks: Education, Health, Social and Pastoral, and Formation. Each council member serves as a Patron of one of these ministries, coordinating activities in collaboration with Regional Superiors and their councils
