The Little Sisters of St. Francis Begin a New Mission in Germany

In September 2024, the Little Sisters of St. Francis opened a new chapter in their missionary journey with the launch of their German mission. Four courageous pioneers—trained health workers and women of deep faith—responded to the call of the Gospel and set out for Europe to continue the congregation’s ministry of healing and evangelization.

Guided by their charism of simplicity, humility, and service, these sisters carry with them more than professional expertise. They bring the compassionate presence of Christ, expressed through tender care, listening hearts, and healing hands. Their ministry in health care is not only about treatment but also about accompaniment—restoring dignity, fostering hope, and sharing the joy of the Gospel with all they serve.

This new foundation in the Archdiocese of Freiburg was made possible thanks to the commitment of Fr. Joseph Edgar, in close collaboration with the Archbishop of Freiburg, whose vision and generosity opened the doors for this mission to become a reality. Their partnership is a testimony to the beauty of the universal Church, where different parts of the Body of Christ support one another in faith and service.

The sisters’ presence in Germany is both a milestone for the Little Sisters of St. Francis and a sign of the vitality of the African Church, which now shares missionaries with communities across the world. Their mission is a gesture of solidarity, friendship, and mutual enrichment, reminding us of the universal call to go wherever the Lord sends us, carrying light, healing, and joy.
